Lee Mazzocchi
Lee Mazzocchi, President

Lee Mazzocchi is President of Pike Engineering. In this position, Lee leads a national team of engineering professionals who serve electric, gas, and telecommunications utilities and independent power producers across the country with broad expertise. Lee is an experienced utility executive with 35 years in the electric utility industry. His experience in the industry has given him an extensive background in various aspects of design, construction, operations, maintenance, customer service, project management, technology, research and development, innovation, supply chain, sustainability and merger integration.

Prior to joining Pike, Lee held a series of positions with increasing responsibility at Duke Energy and Duke acquisition Progress Energy. He served as Senior Vice President, Grid Solutions, where he led Duke Energy’s strategy and program management for regulated electric transmission and distribution investments. He also served as Duke Energy’s Chief Integration and Innovation Officer, Progress Energy’s Vice President of Supply Chain & Chief Procurement Officer and Progress Energy’s Vice President of Electric Power Distribution. Lee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and has completed the advanced management program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Byron Bass
Byron Bass, VP Atlantic Region

Byron Bass is Vice President at Pike Engineering. Based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Byron is responsible for Southeastern Distribution Engineering and Operations. He joined Pike in 2006. Prior to joining Pike, Byron was General Manager at Progress Energy, where he was responsible for approximately 400 employees and distribution service to 650,000 customers. He has also worked as Manager of Energy Distribution at Laurens Electric Cooperative and as Distribution Engineer, Operations Manager and Transmission Field Engineer at South Carolina Electric & Gas. Byron holds an MBA from Charleston Southern University and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University.

Luiz Ordaz
Luiz Ordaz, VP Florida Region

During his 36-year career in the electric utility industry, Luis has held numerous leadership, engineering, operations, construction and technology positions in both Transmission and Distribution Operations. He graduated with honors from the University of South Florida as a member of Tau Beta Pi with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He holds his FE certification and is a priorProject Management Professional (PMP) with the PMI. Luis also earned an Associate Degree in Computer Engineering Technology.
Before coming to Pike as Florida’s Vice President of Engineering, Luis worked for one of the nation’s largest utilities, where he worked with the Chief Operating Officer to drive operational excellence across five large business units. Luis was also Vice President of Distribution Engineering and General Manager of Resource and Project Management, where he was responsible for designing facilities, as well as coordinating construction, maintenance, customer service and reputation management initiatives. In those roles, Luis also served as Chief of Staff and Incident Commander for Florida’s disaster recovery, business continuity and major storm response.
As a leader, Luis cares deeply about employees and about advancing Pike’s culture of safety, integrity and providing outstanding customer service and solutions.

Justin Simmons
Justin Simmons, VP Gulf Region

Justin Simmons is a Vice President of Distribution Engineering Services at Pike Engineering with full P/L responsibility for operations in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and portions of Louisiana. A third-generation Pike employee, Mr. Simmons has extensive experience in distribution engineering, construction and operations. His focus is on developing local relationships with electric utility clients, understanding and anticipating their needs and providing solutions that exceed their expectations regarding safety, quality, schedule and price. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Simmons served as a Contract Administrator with Pike Electric before transitioning to Pike Engineering as an Operations Manager and then Director of Distribution Engineering Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.

joe mcgovern
Joe McGovern, VP Southwest Region

Joe McGovern is Vice President at Pike Engineering. Based in Bedford, Texas, Joe is responsible for overall strategy and operations for Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and portions of Louisiana. Joe has over 25 years of electric utility experience in engineering, operations and finance functions.

Prior to joining Pike, Joe was the Director of Engineering Solutions at Alliant Energy. In that role, he directed the utility’s electric distribution engineering, new technology research and integration strategies, and support for customer energy solutions. Joe served Alliant Energy in several other leadership roles, including as Chief Operating Officer for its Transportation subsidiary, business unit lead for its non-regulated steam distribution business, and lead for its capital control function, which conducted full business reviews of mergers & acquisitions and large capital investments. Joe holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.

Brian Duncan
Brian M. Duncan, VP Transmission and Substation Services

Mr. Duncan is Vice President, Transmission & Substation for Pike Engineering, LLC. He has significant experience in electric transmission, renewables and energy storage including project design and development, state and federal regulatory and permitting processes, FERC ratemaking, ISO/RTO planning, mergers and acquisitions, and asset management. From 2017 to 2019, he served as Executive Director of Development for NextEra Energy Transmission, LLC (NEET), where he led development for NextEra’s competitive transmission business and led NEET’s acquisition of Trans Bay Cable that was completed in 2019. He served as Senior Director of Business Management for NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NEER) from 2014 to 2017, where he managed NEER’s renewable fleet in MISO, PJM, NYISO and part of SPP. Mr. Duncan was a Senior Attorney with NextEra from 2012 to 2014, advising on Dodd-Frank strategy, and energy trading and commodities transactions. Prior to NextEra, Mr. Duncan an associate with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Washington DC where he worked with energy and financial services clients on Dodd-Frank strategy and compliance as well as structured transactions from 2010-2012 and with energy, financial services and technology firms on tax matters including structured transactions, mergers and acquisitions and IRS audits and litigation. Earlier in his career, Mr. Duncan served as officer in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, after which he worked as a consultant at Burns & McDonnell. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.
