Lee Mazzocchi
Lee Mazzocchi, President

Lee Mazzocchi is President of Pike Engineering and leads a national team of over 2,000 engineering professionals who serve electric, gas and telecommunications utilities and independent power producers across the country with broad expertise. With more than 35 years in the electric utility industry, Lee has an extensive background in various aspects of design, construction, operations, maintenance, customer service, project management, technology, research and development, innovation, supply chain, sustainability and merger integration. Lee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University and has completed the Advanced Management program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Byron Bass
Byron Bass, Senior Vice President

Byron Bass serves as Senior Vice President of Pike Engineering and is responsible for the distribution engineering business across the country. Prior to joining Pike in 2006, Byron worked as a utility General Manager, a Manager of Energy Distribution, a Distribution Engineer, an Operations Manager, and a Transmission Field Engineer. Byron holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Charleston Southern University.

John Fraites, Vice President

John Fraites serves as Vice President at Pike Engineering and leads efforts to drive performance and leverage scale for the business. In addition, John oversees Pike Telecom engineering as well as macro and small cell construction. Prior to joining Pike, John was responsible for the financial management of several utility-scale solar, hydroelectric and natural gas plants across the United States. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics from Babson College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.

Joe McGovern
Joe McGovern, Vice President

Joe McGovern serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Southwest region with responsibility for overall strategy and operations in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and portions of Louisiana, Arkansas and California. Joe has over 28 years of electric utility experience in engineering, operations and finance functions. Prior to joining Pike, Joe held leadership roles with a focus on electric distribution engineering, new technology research and integration strategies. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University.

Luiz Ordaz
Luis Ordaz, Vice President

Luis Ordaz serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Florida region. During his 36-year career in the electric utility industry, Luis has held numerous leadership, engineering, operations, construction and technology positions in transmission and distribution operations. Luis graduated with honors from the University of South Florida as a member of Tau Beta Pi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as an Associate Degree in Computer Engineering Technology. He holds his FE certification and is a prior Project Management Professional with the PMI.

Justin Simmons
Justin Simmons, Vice President

Justin Simmons serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Southern region, which includes Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. A third-generation Pike employee, he has extensive experience in distribution engineering, construction and operations. Justin began his career as a Project Manager with Pike Electric, LLC before transitioning to Pike Engineering, LLC as an Operations Manager and then Director of Distribution Engineering Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.

Daniel Wright, Vice President of Engineering for Transmission and Substation Operations

Daniel Wright serves as Vice President of Engineering for Transmission and Substation Operations. Daniel joined Pike in 2009 and has served in a variety of operational and management roles at Pike, including Operations Vice President in Pike Electric’s Eastern Division. Daniel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with Chi Epsilon Honors from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and holds a Professional Engineering license in North Carolina.

Melissa Diener, Vice President Florida region

Melissa Diener serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Florida region. Since joining Pike Engineering in 2019, Melissa has successfully grown key client programs and has demonstrated her ability to lead company-wide initiatives. She has over 20 years of experience in engineering, operations, project management and human resources in the electric utility industry. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics from Greensboro College and continues to hold a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.

Jonathan Elkins, Vice President Atlantic Region

Jonathan Elkins serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Atlantic Region. Jonathan entered the industry in 1999 as a Transmission Line & Substation Engineer and advanced through various positions over a 25-year utility career before joining Pike in 2024, serving most recently as a Director of Operations and Director of Distribution Design for a large utility in the Carolinas. Jonathan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from North Carolina State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Campbell University. He has held his PE license in North Carolina since 2004.
