Pike Engineering provides electric distribution engineering, system planning, and joint-use make-ready services for energy customers across the nation. Our team of engineers, designers, project managers, and technicians operates from offices nationwide, supporting investor-owned utilities, municipal and public power organizations, electric cooperatives, and other energy customers. As part of 1 Pike, Pike Engineering coordinates directly with construction and field teams to ensure designs are buildable and cost-effective before work begins, supporting efficient execution across transmission, distribution and substation projects.

Leadership

Lee Mazzocchi, President

Lee Mazzocchi is President of Pike Engineering and United Grid Solutions and leads a national team of engineering professionals who serve energy providers across the country with broad expertise. With more than 40 years in the utility industry, Lee has an extensive background in various aspects of design, construction, operations, maintenance, customer service, project management, technology, research and development, innovation, supply chain, sustainability and merger integration.

Lee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University and has completed the Advanced Management program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Justin Simmons, Vice President

Justin Simmons serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Southern region. He has extensive experience in distribution engineering, construction and operations. Justin began his career as a Project Manager with Pike Electric before transitioning to Pike Engineering as an Operations Manager and then Director of Distribution Engineering Services.

Justin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University.

Melissa Diener, Vice President

Melissa Diener serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Eastern region. She joined Pike Engineering in 2019 and has over 20 years of experience in engineering, operations, project management, and human resources in the utility industry.

Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics from Greensboro College and continues to hold a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.

Jonathan Elkins, Vice President

Jonathan Elkins serves as Vice President of Pike Engineering’s Central Region. Jonathan entered the industry in 1999 as a Transmission Line & Substation Engineer and advanced through various positions over a 25-year utility career before joining Pike in 2024, serving most recently as a Director of Operations and Director of Distribution Design for a large utility in the Carolinas.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from North Carolina State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Campbell University. He has held his PE license in North Carolina since 2004.

Joe McGovern, Vice President

Joe McGovern serves as Vice President at Pike Engineering and leads Engineering Support Functions to improve business performance. Joe has over 28 years of utility experience in engineering, operations and finance functions. Prior to joining Pike, Joe held leadership roles with a focus on electric distribution engineering, new technology research and integration strategies.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Iowa State University.
